What is TEfl?

What is this “TEFL” everyone talks about? TEFL is an acronym for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Put simply, it’s English language teaching geared to non-native speakers. You may have heard the terms TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Language) and ELT (English Language Teaching)  as well. “ESL” refers to English as a Second Language and typically refers to teaching.. “TEFL” and “TESOL” are often used interchangeably, and practically speaking, there is little difference. In most cases, a “TEFL certification” and a “TESOL certification” mean and do the same thing.

Technically, TESOL is used to refer to teaching of English to non-native speakers in native English speaking countries. Many degree-holding English speakers who work domestically in the UK, Canada, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and the US will use the term “TESOL.”

TEFL Course Certification

what is tefl certification?

TEFL Certification is an internationally accredited teaching certification earned through English teaching courses.  TEFL courses teach the basics of how to effectively teach English overseas. To teach English as a Foreign Language in a foreign, non-native English speaking country, a TEFL Certification is greatly beneficial—and often required for those without an English degree.  Private language schools, online teaching companies, and government programs typically require a professional-level teacher training, namely TEFL or CELTA. In many places, a college degree will suffice; however, TEFL certification provides the training necessary to be a successful ESL teacher overseas.
